Owner`s Message

As we are now well into a new school year we are again reminded of the absolutely critical role parents play as the principal educator of their children. As teachers we see students, who for the most part, have journeyed through their school years with teachers constantly repeating the same message about being attentive in class, ensuring your home study is done both well and completely, respecting others, and carrying yourself in a manner both your parents and your teachers can be proud of. As teachers we know that attention to these matters will make students successful in all levels of school and life.

As a school administrator I often meet with parents who are frustrated by the track their children are taking in the above noted areas. Most often they come to the school asking for direction as to how to best help their child do well and straighten themselves out. My response is always one where a parent must hold their child to account for their success and failures and that the parent must also be accountable for structuring the home environment for the achievement of successes.

The rules of thumb we always state are:

Ensure your child has a quiet place to work on their homework. The best place is the kitchen table. This location allows the parent to check on the work and focuses the child without distractions.

Show your children, by your interest and involvement, that you realize school is very important - it is the key to future success.Failure to train one child to be a good learner now almost guaranteesthem problems in the future. Check to see their binders regularly, If the work is not to a good standard demand they redo it. Acceptance of sloppiness now will only promote its continuance.

If your children are involved in the extra curricular activities ensure their school work is done well first. This should always be the determining factor in allowing the perks of extra curricular.

Sit down with them and have them explain their work to you. Positive affirmation that it the result of well done work is priceless. As adults we appreciate this type of feedback in our work - children are no different.

Interest breeds interest, indifference breeds indifference.

Most adults recall well how they felt when they weresuccessful in school as young students and how they felt when they weren't doing well. Parents as principal educators and role models have an incredible role in developing their children into successful life long learners.

If parents follow the suggestions for home study given and become acquainted to what is expected of their child and what other children are doing there is little doubt that their children’s school efforts will improve. The efforts parents apply to this will pay incredible dividends for the child and the family in the future. We thank you for all your efforts to date in these regards.
